- National Geographic

Owned by a Costa Rican Family, Punta Marenco Lodge is located near Drake Bay, close to Corcovado National Park in the heart of the Punta Rio Claro National Wildlife Refuge.

In 1997, a large part because of the owner’s efforts, this area was declared a National Wildlife Refuge by the president of Costa Rica because of its amazing biodiversity and the need for protection of species in danger of extinction in the area.

Located 2 miles south of Drake Bay, inside the Punta Rio Claro National Wildlife Refuge, beach front private Bungalows with ocean view, each bungalow built in harmony with its surroundings protecting the rainforest that surround us, private trails, beach trail with miles of pristine beaches to explore, many activities such as tours to Corcovado and Caño Island, Bird watching Whale watching, snorkeling, swimming, horseback riding and more.

During your visit you will have a chance to see White Faced, Spider and Howler Monkeys playing around your cabin, the noisy Scarlet Macaws, and during the whale season, from June through April, Humpback Whales during their stay in Drake Bay.  Humpbacks migrate each year from both the Northern and Southern hemisphere to their breeding grounds just off the coast of Costa Rica.  It is one of the most spectacular gatherings in nature.
